Here’s a recap of this summer’s NLARA Sports Leadership Camp at Collins High School, where 19 student-athletes were trained as Junior Council members and coaches.

Funded through the One Summer Chicago program managed by UCAN's Workforce Development department, these students organized a 5k run in North Lawndale and a sports day for local youth. Each participant is a member of a sports team at Collins and received training in the principles of Play Like A Champion. With support from The Lost Boyz, Peace Runners, Coach Terrell Dean's Mind Over Matter basketball camp, and The Chicago Lions Rugby Club, the camp was an engaging and forward-looking experience that inspired the students to pursue coaching.
