The Chicago Lions Rugby Teams dispatched their High School Boys and Girls Squads to Washington DC from March 7th to 10th for the Urban Rugby Championship III. This year's 7s tournament showcased teams from various cities including Chicago, Memphis, Los Angeles, Washington DC, New York, Philadelphia, Nashville, Cincinnati, Alexandria City, and South Florida. The Lions Boys triumphed with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Girls secured a respectable 1-1-1 outcome.
Accompanied by four seasoned players and ten rookies, the Lions HSG Team demonstrated the power of teamwork and dedication. These young women exhibited unwavering commitment, leaving everything they had on the field. Meanwhile, the Lions Boys introduced five unstoppable rookies, showcasing their trademark physicality, epitomized by Jaeveon "Crunch" Hilton's impressive tackle that drove the ball carrier back 15 meters.
Beyond the realm of rugby, the trip provided invaluable opportunities for cultural, historical, and social exploration. The Chicago Lions visited significant landmarks including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Mall, and Howard University. These excursions enriched the experience, leaving a lasting impact on the participants.
